Turk Telekom:93 Beşiktaş Cola Turka:86

Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team suffered a 93-86 loss at the hands of Turk Telekom in the season opener of the 2007-2008 Beko Basketball League.

Thanks to an early barrage of consecutive baskets by Apodaca, Sinan, Nicevic, our Team made an impressive start into the game and jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first 2 minutes of the first quarter. Following Turk Telekom Coach Ercüment Kunter’s time-out, the host team tried to stage a come back but Dalmau immediately answered Haluk Yıldırım's basket and Nicevic, who was his day, continued to produce a steady flow points for Beşiktaş from all over the court. However an effective performance by Wright under the boards started to cut the deficit down as Black & Whites held on to a slim 2 point lead at the 6 minute mark. Nevertheless, from that minute onwards, Beşiktaş Cola Turka, helped by Nicevic and Sinan’s back to back baskets, got organized and played excellent defense that put them 23 - 12 in front going into second quarter.

Unable to stop Apodaca and Nicevic’s high-percentage shots, Turk Telekom came empty handed from most of its scoring attempts as Black & Whites extended their lead to 15 points (27-12) 8 minutes left to go in the second period.

However, Ankara representative eventually tightened up defensively and started to take advantage of Beşiktaş’s costly turnovers. A 15-3 run staged by Wright, Bekir, Tutku and Dudley enabled Turk Telkom to claw back within 3 points at 30-27 with 6 minutes remaining in the quarter. Nonetheless, Beşiktaş managed to counter this rally with Erkan, Apodaca and Dalmau trio's points that did not allow the host team to get any closer. Lifted by Nicevic and Erkan's late quarter baskets, Black & Whites went to their locker room leading 46-37 at the half.

Both teams started the third quarter by exchanging baskets on both ends. While Dudley and Wright scored for the home side, Black & Whites responded them with Sinan and Nicevic. Dalmau converted Turk Telekom’s defensive errors into valuable points and increased Beşiktaş’s lead to 56-44 at the 24 minute of the game. But Haluk Yıldırım’s effective rebounding combined with a timely 3-pointer from El-Amin initiated another comeback rally for the hosts that reduced Black Eagle’s advantage to 5 points (60-55) with 3 minutes to play in the quarter. Following an exchange of 3-pointers put forward by Haluk and Dalmau, Beşiktaş Cola Turka went into the fourth quarter holding a 70-63 lead.

Turk Telekom opened the final quarter with Wright-Williams duo’s baskets. Black & Whites tried to counter them with Apodaca's points but the convincing executions by El-Amin and Williams enabled the home side to gain the upper hand in the game and Tutku’s timely 3-pointer cut Beşiktaş Cola Turka's lead down to a single point with 5 minutes left in the game (78-77). After Black & White's most effective player Nicevic fouled out, Beşiktaş struggled to maintain its advantage with Kaya Peker’s points but Williams 2 free throws with 3 minutes remaining put Turk Telekom ahead for the first time in the game (83-82). Backed by Williams’ offensive surge, the host team got two quick baskets from Tutku and Wright and extended its advantage to 4 points going into the final minute. Despite Black & Whites’ desperate attempts to recover the lost ground, Turk Telekom managed to hold on to its lead and walked away with a 93-86 hard-fought victory.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka: 73 Pınar Karşıyaka: 77

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team hosted Pınar Karşıyaka at BJK Cola Turka Arena in the second week of the Beko Basketball League. The visitors from Izmir city managed to walk away with a 77-73 victory after a closely fought game.

Stepping on the court with a starting line up consisted of Kaya Peker, Nicevic, Dalmau, Shumpert and Sinan Güler, Black & Whites jumped out to an early lead thanks to Shumpert and Nicevic’s well-timed baskets. However back to back turnovers created by the home team kept the game within the reach for the Agean representatives. Nonetheless, Sinan Güler’s impressive performance starting from 5 minute mark enabled Beşiktaş Cola Turka to take a 18-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A combination of aggressive defense and high-percentage 3-point shots put Black & Whites in front, 30-18, within a 3.5 minute span midway through the second quarter. But Pınar Karşıyaka took advantage of Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s defensive lapses and succeeded in tying the score at 36-36. Despite a promising start to second quarter, Black & Whites had to settle for a slim 40-38 lead going into their locker room at half time intermission.

At the start of the second half, a long range 3-pointer by Gary put the visiting green and red team ahead, while Beşiktaş Cola Turka struggled to get on the score board. Unable to muster any points from the painted area, Black & Whites had to rely on its outside shots taken behind the arch. Capitalizing on Beşiktaş’s turnovers and missed shots, Pınar Karşıyaka took a 50-49 edge with 4 minutes left in the quarter. The visitors also dominated the boards on both ends of the court and extended their advantage to 56-52 entering the final minute. However with 40 seconds left in quarter, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team finally shook off its long lasting sluggish play and managed to recapture the lead with 5 unanswered points which pushed it 57-56 ahead at the end of the third quarter.

Supported by an enthusiastic home crowd, our Black & Whites built their advantage to 7 points, but Karşıyaka regrouped and launched a successful counter-offensive that cut the deficit to a mere 2 points (67-65) over the final 5 minutes of the fourth quarter. The game featured an exciting and dramatic finish down the stretch as visitors equalized the score once again at 71-71 with only 3 minutes left to play. Powered by the addition of Cevher, Apodaca and Erkan , Beşiktaş Cola Turka made a last attempt to steal the game, but failed to register any points from inside and out to regain the lead. The superior rebounding performance of the visiting team on both ends not only prevented the home side from scoring but also provided a 4-point cushion entering the final minute of the game. Pınar Karşıyaka managed to hold on to this advantage and recorded a narrow 77-73 victory at the end of the match.

Mutlu Aku Selcuk Univ.:55 - Besiktas Cola Turka:105

Beşiktaş Coal Turka cruised to a 105-55 comfortable victory over Mutlu Akü Selçuk University in the 3rd week of the Beko Basketball League.

Our visiting Black and Whites made an impressive start into the game and kept pressurizing their opponents from the first minute onwards. A string of unanswered points from Erkan, Cevher and Apodoca trio and an outstanding rebounding performance by Niceviç enabled Beşiktaş Cola Turka to build a substantial 30-10 lead heading into second quarter.

Supported by a solid defense and timely baskets from Shumbert and Kaya Black and Whites extended the deficit to 30 points midway through the second quarter. When the feeble scoring attempts of İlker, Hicks and İbrahim were squelched by Beşiktaş Cola Turka, the host team Selçuk University went to its locker room trailing 56-26 at the half.

Despite holding a commanding lead, the Black and White team continued to play exhibition basketball as they widened the gap even further with Apodoca, Kaya Peker and Niceviç. As a result Beşiktaş Cola Turka opened up an insurmountable 41 points lead at the end of third quarter (85-44).

The Black Eagle started off the final quarter with back-to-back baskets from Shumbert and Kaya Peker who increased the deficit to a stunning 47 points against a hapless home team defense. Beşiktaş Cola Turka secured a 105-55 lopsided victory at the end.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team snatched an 84-68 victory away from Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi in the 4th week of the Beko Basketball League.

Off to an unexpectedly bright start, visitors jumped out to an early lead by Fobbs’s back-to-back baskets in the painted area but Black and Whites came back to tie it up at 7-7 with a long range 3-pointer from Cevher 4 minutes into the game. However, Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi staged a more effective defensive performance under its own board as they opened up a 10 point gap by Jones’s 3-pointer that put them ahead 17-7 with 3 minutes remaining. Thanks to Ümit’s late baskets, visitors stayed 23-18 in front after the first quarter.

Spurred by an improved second half defense, Beşiktaş Cola Turka first tied the score with Nicevic’s basket at 30-30 and then took the lead on a 2-pointer by Apodaca for the first time in the game at the 16-minute mark. However, Mersin city representatives quickly responded with a barrage of 3-pointers from Reha and Stefanov as they went to their locker room leading 41-39 at intermission.

Beşiktaş Cola opened the third with a consecutive run of 3-pointers by Dalmau and Shumbert and allowed only 5 points in 8 minutes. Heading to final quarter, Kaya Peker’s outstanding overall performance helped Black and Whites grab a 53-46 edge they never relinquished.

Before the tip-off, Black Eagles stepped on the court with a ‘‘We Are All Soldiers’’ written banner and their fans supported them with their own national flags throughout the game.

Besiktas Cola Turka: 73 – Darussafaka: 58

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball team routed visiting Darüşşafaka, 73-58 at BJK Akatlar Cola Turka Arena in the 6th week of Beko Basketball League.
Both teams got off to a fast start and traded baskets on both ends but an aggressive defense eventually allowed Black and Whites to build an early lead and forced their opponents to play catch-up. Niçeviç’s impressive performance under both hoops and Erkan’s timely baskets helped Beşiktaş tear Darüşşafaka defense apart completely. Despite their feeble attempts to claw back into the game, the out-classed visitors trailed 20-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Having established a comfortable second quarter lead, Beşiktaş’s coach brought on his bench players to give them some court time while Kaya Peker, Onur and Eren kept pouring it on as the gap between the two teams continued to grow in favor of the hosts. Thanks to a productive second quarter, which saw 8 different Black and White players score, Beşiktaş went to its locker room leading 40-26 at the half- time break.

Spurred by Kaya Peker’s under the hoop points, Beşiktaş Cola Turka virtually dominated the third quarter. Consecutive unanswered 3-pointers drained from long range enabled Black and Whites to extend their lead even further. Unable to get into the painted area, the helpless Darüşşafaka had no other choice but to resort to outside shots. However these forced shots hit nothing but the iron. Backed by a solid defense, Beşiktaş Cola Turka held a 62-43 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter of the game was not much different than the rest as Black and Whites continued to play exhibition basketball which produced a convincing 73-58 victory for Beşiktaş Cola Turka in the end.

Efes Pilsen:77 Besiktas Cola Turka:93

Sparked by an outstanding overall performance, visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team demolished mighty Efes Pilsen 93-77 and bagged another decisive victory. Our loyal fans played an important role in the win with their non-stop cheering throughout the game.
Black and White basketball lovers showed a great interest in this week’s Istanbul derby that took place at Abdi İpekçi Sports Saloon and did not stop cheering from start to finish. Meanwhile our Beşiktaş Cola Turka displayed an exhibition basketball on the floor as it pulled off a well-deserved 16 point victory over last season’s runner up. After the game, the jubilant Black and White players hung around to celebrate the victory together with their devoted fans.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka got off to a hot start and jumped out to an early lead with back-to-back jumpers from long-range. Spurred by an impressive performance from Kaya Peker and Shumpert at both ends, Black and White team prevented their hosts from getting an open look at the bucket for a long time. Despite a late quarter rally by the home side, Beşiktaş Cola Turka managed to take a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

At the start of second, Efes Pilsen tried to exert its dominance by drilling 3-pointers beyond the arch but Black and Whites quickly answered them with Shumpert and Apodaca. Nevertheless, lifted by Kerem Gönlüm’s rebounding the home team eventually sealed its defense and did not let Beşiktaş Cola Turka forwards to get inside as it cut the deficit to single point at 27-26 with 4 minutes remaining in the half. However, our Back and White team refused to get caught and extended its lead to 11 points within a 2-minute span at 37-26 thanks to a late surge from Kaya Peker and Shumpert. This timely run enabled Beşiktaş Cola Turka to take a deep breath as it trotted to its locker room holding a 39-31 edge at the half- time break.

Black and Whites carried their momentum into second half and a productive performance from Kaya Peker and Erkan Veyseloğlu kept Efes Pilsen under constant pressure. Backed by high-percentage 3-pointers and superior rebounding visitors increased their advantage to 18 points midway through the third quarter and entered into final minute ahead 61-49. Then Shumpert, who was definitely one the of the stars of the game, started to nail jumpers from all over the floor and boosted Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s lead to 66-49 after there quarters of play.

Despite a comfortable cushion, Black and White team did not slow its game down while Apodaca and Shumpert kept knocking down three after three. After minimizing its defensive lapses, Beşiktaş Cola Turka held off a late charge by Kerem Gönlüm and forced the hapless Efes Pilsen defense to watch Apodoca drain a string of unanswered 3-pointers from the corners. Lifted by Kaya Peker’s extraordinary offensive rebounding down the stretch Black and White visitors managed to run away with a convincing 93-77 victory in the end. They also dealt the mighty Efes Pilsen one of their worst home losses ever.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s other star Apodaca finished the game with 25 points while Shumpert had 22. Kaya Peker (22), Niceviç (8 ), Dalmau (7), Erkan Veyseloğlu (5), Onur Aydın (3) and Mehmet Yağmur (2) were the other scorers for the victors.

FMP:77 Besiktas Cola Turka:78

Our visiting Besiktas Cola Turka Men’s Basketball team passed Serbian FMP Zeleznik 78-77 in its third ULEP Cup Group B game and maintained sole possession of first place with a perfect record.
Black and Whites stepped on the floor with a first five consisting of Erkan Veyseloglu, Kaya Peker, Rick Apodaca, Preston Shumpert and Cevher Özer. Despite an early rally by Kaya Peker and Christian Dalmau, Beşiktaş Cola Turka fell behind midway through the opening quarter but Erkan Veyseloğlu’s jumper tied it up at 15-15 with 5 minutes to play. From that moment on, our Black and Whites had trouble finding good shots but a late surge from Sandro Nicevic helped them close out the first quarter 24-22 in front.

Undeterred by FMP’s fast second quarter start that leveled the score at 26-26 with only a minute into the half, Beşiktaş Cola Turka managed to take a 31-26 lead at the 13th minute mark of the game. Following a brief lull in which teams kept trading baskets at both ends, the visitors extended their advantage to 7 points at 40-33 on a string of unanswered baskets by Cevher Özer and Apodaca with 2 minutes remaining in the half. The Serbian team came back and erased this deficit with points from Miroslav Raduljica and Djordje Micic but baskets by Preston Shumpert and Christian Dalmau put our team ahead, 44-43 at the half-time break.

The host team opened the third with back-to back jumpers from Zoran Erceg and Nemanja Protic and regained the lead but Besiktas Cola Turka quickly countered this surge with Apodaca and Mehmet Yagmur to tie the game at 50-50 with 6 minutes left in the quarter. And then Cevher Özer , Apodaca and Nicevic took turns to known down their shots from all over the floor and gave Black Eagle a 6 point advantage at 61-55 with 3 minutes remaining. However, the strong Serbian side refused to surrender and used a late surge from Zoran ve Djordje to crawl within 65-63 after three quarters of play.

At the start of the fourth quarter Zoran hit a 3-pointer and put the FMP Zeleznik back on top. After the lead seesawed back and forth, clutch baskets by Christian Dalmau and Preston Shumpert helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka restore its advantage at 76-71 with 3 minutes left. However, the home team took back the lead on Dragan Labovic’s 2 consecutive 3-pointers from long range and entered the final minute of the game ahead 77-76. But our Black and Whites were determined not to give up as Erkan Veyseloglu’s last second free throws lifted them past their host 78-77 in the end. With this valuable away win Beşiktaş Cola Turka made it three wins in row and remained at the top of ULEP Cup Group B with an unblemished record.

Rick Apodaca finished the game with 15 points while Sandro Niceviç added 14 for the Turkish team. Preston Shumphert (13), Kaya Peker (11), Erkan Veyseloglu (7), Cevher Özer (7), Christian Dalmau (6) and Mehmet Yagmur (5) were the other scorers for Black and Whites.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka:75 GS Cafe Crown:80

Visiting Galatasary Cafe Crown downed the Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team, 80-75, at BJK Cola Turka Arena in the 8th week of Beko Basketball League.
Beşiktaş started a lineup consisting of Nicevic, Kaya Peker, Dalmau, Apodaca and Erkan Veyseloğlu but had trouble finding the bucket early on despite a superior rebounding at both ends. During the opening minutes, teams kept trading baskets with neither side gaining upper hand. But backed by Hüseyin Beşok’s baskets under the hoop, our traditional rival Galatasaray began to pull ahead midway through the opening quarter with a string of 3-pointers. Unable to get its usual offensive rhythm going, Beşiktaş Cola Turka could not answer Brown’s threes and trailed by 7 late in the quarter. Meanwhile Galatasaray’s solid defense prevented Black and Whites from getting inside and forced Beşiktaş Cola to take some tough outside shots. But obviously having an off-day, the poor- shooting Black and Whites failed to take advantage of their chances and fell behind, 20-15, at the end of first quarter.

Galatasaray Cafe Crown managed to carry its momentum into the second and continued to play aggressive defense while knocking down baskets in and outside the painted area during most of the quarter. After converting a series of Beşiktaş’s turnovers into baskets, the yellow and red team also hit some critical free throws and extended its lead to 11 points at 28-17 with 5 minutes to play in the half. From that minute onwards Beşiktaş Cola Turka finally began to chip away at the visitors’ lead with Shumpert’s consecutive 3-pointers and cut the deficit down to 4 points with 2 minutes remaining. But hot-shooting Galatasaray Cafe Crown came back to hit three back-to back 3-pointers and took a 42- 34 lead going into its locker at the half.

Beşiktaş Cola Turka started the second half with a lineup that included some key defensive players who can make jumpers at the same time and quickly rallied to trim the 8-point half-time with consecutive baskets. After slicing Galatasaray’s lead to 2 points, Erkan Veysel drained a along-range 3-pointer to put Black and Whites ahead, 45-44, for the first time in the game with 6 minutes remaining in the quarter. From that moment on the game developed into a seesaw affair with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions. But a late surge by Brown, who sank back-to-back threes from all over the floor, turned the game in favor of the visitors once again. The yellow and red team held a 59-55 edge after three quarters of play.

During the opening minutes of the final quarter, visiting Galatasaray Cafe Crown tried to protect its advantage by putting up an aggressive defense, while Black and Whites relied on their fast break play to remain within a shot or two. Although the visiting team managed to increase its lead midway through the quarter, our Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team charged back with a string of baskets scored inside the painted area and pulled within 64-63 at the 34th minute mark of the game. But just like in previous quarters, Galatasaray turned to its 3-point shots and started widening the gap one more time.

Nevertheless, Erkan Veyseloğlu took the center stage again and dug deep to keep Black and Whites in the game. His critical free throws and timely 3-pointer brought Beşiktaş Cola Turka to within 3 at 73-70 late in the game. But the visiting yellow and reds put together a late run of their own with fast break points and high-percentage threes to pull out an 80-75 victory in the end.

B.Banvit:59 – Besiktas Cola Turka:67

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team captured a 67-59 road victory over Banvit in the 9th week of the League.
Getting off to a fine start, Black and Whites capitalized on its opponent’s turnovers and raced out to an early 10-4 lead after the first 4,5 minutes of the play. Out-rebounding Banvit under its own board, Beşiktaş Coal Turka, first opened a 16-4 gap behind consecutive points by Murat Güler and then went on to close quarter with a 22-7 lead.

Banvit came on strong in second and ran off 11 unanswered points in 3 minutes to trim the deficit to 22-18. But, from that moment on Black and Whites sealed their defense and prevented Banvit from getting anything going offensively. A string of baskets by Dalmau and Nicevic helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka increase its advantage to 38-21 before heading to its locker room at the half-time break.

Black and Whites started off the third with a couple of jumpers from Murat Güler and built a 19 point gap at 42-23 in the early going. But the home team rallied back and pulled within 48-43 at the end of third quarter.

Banvit opened the final quarter with a 3-pointer by Ümit Sonkol and cut the deficit even further. But Beşiktaş Cola Turka took advantage of its opponent’s costly turnovers and managed to hold onto a 8 point lead midway through the quarter. Refusing to get caught, Black and Whites easily withstood a late comeback by Banvit to emerge with a valuable 67-59 road win at the end.

Besiktas Cola Turka:97 Kepez Belediyesi:89

Beşitaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team pulled out a 97-89 OT victory over visiting Kepez Belediyesi at BJK Cola Turka Arena in the 10th week of Beko Basketball League.
The game started with both teams exchanging easy baskets but neither side gained the upper hand during the early going. While Black and Whites took advantage of Sinan Güler’s hot hand, the visitors answered him with jumpers from Simmons to stay in the game. Despite Güven Esmer’s baskets that pulled the visitors ahead at times, the teams traded the lead back and forth throughout most of the quarter. But Beşiktaş Cola Turka still managed to take a slim 21-20 edge going into second.

The first 5 minutes of the second quarter turned out to be replica of the first. The home team and visitors continued to battle point for point. However, relying heavily on outside shots, Kepez Belediyesi began to falter midway through the quarter and lost its offensive rhythm. Backed by a tightened defense, Black and White team rallied behind consecutive fast-break points from Erkan and Sinan and opened up a 6 point gap late in the quarter. A number of clutch threes down the stretch helped Black and Whites maintain their edge as they went into their dressing room with a 40-36 lead at the half.

Visitors came on strong in the third, and tried to trim the deficit with fast-break points, but Beşiktaş Cola Turka fought back, and kept its 4 point margin intact. Spurred by Nicevic’s lay-ups under the basket, Beşiktaş closed the third quarter leading 59-56.

The final quarter saw visiting Kepez Belediyesi pull within 68-67 with 5 minutes left, and almost grab the lead. But Beşiktaş Cola Turka countered with Nicevic’s unstoppable lay-ups, and began to increase the deficit once again. Unable to get inside, visitors turned to outside shots, and managed to cut the deficit to 72-71 late in the quarter. From then on, the game turned into a nail-biting seesaw affair as Black and Whites entered the final 15 seconds holding an 80-77 edge. But, Simmons drilled a long-range 3-pointer and sent the game into overtime.

Visiting Antalya City representatives opened the overtime with a three by Simmons, and took an early lead. However, Dalmau quickly responded with a three of his own and tied the game. As the final 5 minutes progressed, Beşiktaş began to capitalize on its opponents turnovers, and sprinted to a 6 point advantage behind baskets by Shumpert and Dalmau. But, visitors rallied back to close the gap and entered the final 30 seconds trailing by only 2. Following Sinan Güler’s clutch 3-pointer with 22 seconds to play, which turned out to be a breath of fresh air for Beşiktaş Cola Turka, Dalmau’s free throws pushed Black and Whites’ lead to 7 with 10 seconds remaining in overtime. When the final buzzer sounded, Beşiktaş Cola Turka pulled away with a well-earned 97-89 victory.

Nicevic finished with a game-high 25 points followed by Sinan Güler and Shumpert who both scored 20 points each. Dalmau (16), Kaya Peker (5), Erkan (4), Onur (3), Mehmet Yağmur (2) and Erkan Özer (2) also contributed to home team’s victory.
